Rehearsals and Recital Information

In-Studio Rehearsals
There will be two in-studio rehearsals:

Saturday, June 3rd 10:00am - 1:00pm
Sunday, June 4th 12:00pm - 3:00pm

An entire act will be during each rehearsal so the dancers can learn when to line up and where, and who will help them backstage.

Recital Ticket Sales
Recital tickets for reserved seating will be sold during the in-studio rehersal on Saturday June 3rd, 11:00am - 1:00pm. They will continue to be sold at the studio's front desk and at the door on recital day.

Dress Rehearsal
This will be held on Friday, June 9th at 5:00 pm. Please arrive at 4:30 pm ready to rehearse. Dancers should be in full-costume and makeup with all of their shoes and tights.

Dress rehearsal is located at the same location the recital is:
Mercy High School

(corner of 11 mile and Middlebelt)

The younger children will rehearse first and be dismissed early. Some competition group dances will be rehearsed if time allows.

The Recital
The recital is held on Saturday June 10th, 1:00pm - 5:00pm. All dancers should arrive by 12:30pm, dressed in their first costume and ready to dance. The main theme of the recital is "At the Mall".

There will soon be a sign-up sheet for "Backstage Mom" volunteers to work in the dressing rooms. If you are not working backstage and your child has a costume or shoe change you will need to arrange to have help for your child. Please do NOT leave the auditorium during the performance. It is proper theater etiquette to wait until intermission to leave your seat!

Children who do not have any dances in Act III will be excused during the second intermission to sit with their parents so they may enjoy the final dances from the audience. Please do not remove your child from the backstage area until then; if they are not backstage they will not be in the Act II finale.

It is very distracting to see people moving from the audience to the dressing rooms, so please restrain from doing it. Your child will be taken care of by the backstage moms.

Picture Information

Pictures will be held on Tuesday, May 9th. There will be a schedule posted closer to the date - each class will have a certain time, with time for individual and buddy pictures after. If a class's costume is not in by the first picture date, another picture day will be scheduled for later in May. Everyone will be notified of any changes.

Please remember that no one except the professional photographer may take pictures.

Every dancer should have the correct shoes and tights color for each class' costume! A list is available at the front desk at the studio, and I'll be posting one here momentarily.

Hair should be completely off the face - no bangs! - and put into a bun in the middle of the back of the head.

Makeup should be brown or purple eye shadow (never blue or green), red lipstick, and blush. Under stage lights facial features are washed out, so stage makeup should look heavy up close (but to the audience will look completely normal).

Remember that these pictures can be included in the recital program ads! They will be available for purchase beginning in May, more information to follow.

Updates

I'm working on putting together a calender that I can add events to and post here... so far I'm leaning toward using Sunbird, but if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. :)

I've already received quite a few pictures and added them to the two galleries. More are always welcome!

As soon as the information is put together, I'm going to make posts with the full shoe/tights list for every class, and a list of the music that every class uses as well.

Speaking of music... if a CD of all the competition music (or a CD personalized to a particular dancer) was available to buy at the desk, how many people would be interested?

News and Dates

I just wanted to remind everyone of some important dates and stuff:

- Competition pictures will be held on Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. We won't be having normal classes, but Miss Theresa will still be teaching private lessons. She would also like everyone to come in their production costume.

- The lock-in fundraiser set for Saturday has been cancelled due to lack of interest. It will most likely be rescheduled for a little later in the dance year.

- The recital date is set for Saturday, June 10. It will be held at Mercy High School from approximately 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Dress rehearsal will be held the night before.

If you have dance pictures on your computer and you want us to include them in our galleries, send them on over! I added two gallery links on the right sidebar: one of Fire and Ice pictures and one of general dance pictures. Check them out, and if you want to contribute, e-mail the pictures to me. :) We'll add more galleries as we add more pictures.

Hello World!

Good morning, Starshine. The earth says hello!

Hello everyone, thanks for checking out the Dance Extreme blog. While I'm working on creating a full-fledged website filled with information and goodies and all that fun stuff, I'll be posting here with updates and news from the studio. This is basically a newsletter, just online.

You can help me a lot by commenting with suggestions on content I should include in the website. I already intend to include a lot, but you never know what I might not have thought about. Soon I'll be posting with a general site map so you can see what I've already come up with.

Eventually, I hope to add a few more bloggers to the team here - maybe we could even convince Miss Theresa and Miss Cyndi to contribute. Stories of fun stuff that happened at a competition, pictures from a dance get-together, interesting dance information...
